Talk4Write and Mighty Writer
Oral story-telling underpins much of our teaching of reading and writing. Every culture has its own oral traditions and stories, used to communicate beliefs, share information, provide social cohesion and give pleasure.
Through story-telling children gain confidence in the use of language, structuring ideas, sentences and stories, and in speaking in front of an audience.
Talk for Writing (Pie Corbett) and Mighty Writer are used at QPIA as vehicles for developing story-telling and story writing.
In Talk for Writing each year group has a set of high quality books which are read throughout the year and linked to each term’s topic.
These books can be:
- Read as a class story
- Learned an retold using the story language (imitation) and story maps
- Adapted (innovation and invention stages)
