Art

At Queen's Park Infant Academy we see Art as an important way for our children to express themselves. We believe that our teaching of Art should both excite and challenge our children, equipping them with the skills they can use to design, experiment and create their own works of art. We teach children to think critically whilst retaining a respect for creative expression and thinking.

In the early years, children are given regular opportunities to explore and play with a variety of media and materials. We begin to introduce vocabulary to help them talk about their discoveries.

In Key Stage 1, children use a range of materials and processes in Art, including drawing, painting and sculpture, and their vocabulary develops to enable them to describe and evaluate colour, pattern, line, texture, shape, form and space. They learn about the work of a range of artists and makers.
